Adam Gulson from the Gold Coast RRA of Australia was a recent visitor to Ontario. He very kindly extended an invitation for a Canadian referee to officiate the Gold Coast's schoolboy's tournament. Brian Bell took him up on his invitation.
From the 5th to 11th of July, Brian reffed at the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival, an annual gathering school and club rugby players from around the world. It is the largest and longest running rugby event of its type in Australia and most of the clubs and schools who attend are Carnival regulars. The teams include some of the top teams from Australia plus visiting schools from New Zealand and the UK.
The organizers claim its success is built on the traditional Rugby qualities of:
• Competitiveness • Sportsmanship • Friendship
Not only did this experience provide Brian with an opportunity for performance development, it was chance to make new friends and have some fun.
