Match Statistics
Monday, 19-Aug-86 -

The statistics below are based 15 matches in 2009.  Each of the matches was a Senior Men's match from Marshall 1, Jones 1, or Keenan 1 Leagues or featured Rep teams.  The referees were all Ontario Panel or Promising List appointed by the ORRS.

Numbers can never tell the whole story but they can indicate trends.  It is pleasing to note that the number of stoppages, penalties and unplayables are all below the Rugby Canada Benchmark values.

Those who have received performance reviews this year can find the totals for their match at the end of the report.  It is a useful exercise to compare 'your' numbers with the averages and ask yourself why there is a difference.  There are many factors - weather, ground conditions, team game plans, etc., etc.  ....  and some can be influenced by the referee.

Stoppages

  • Number of scrums averaged 27 with a high of 38 and a low of 15. No significant difference between the two halves.
  • Number of lineouts averaged 21 with a high of 29 and a low of 13. Slightly more in the first half.
  • Unplayables averaged one in each half for total of 2. Highest total was 5 and lowest zero. This is well below the Rugby Canada Benchmark of 8 maximum.
  • Penalties, inc free kicks, averaged 20 with a high of 28 and a low of 14. No significant difference between the two halves. The average is well below the Rugby Canada Benchmark of 28 maximum.
  • Injury stoppages averaged 2 per match with a range of zero to 7. There were slightly more in the second half.
  • Total stoppages averaged 73 with a high of 88 and a low of 61. No significant difference between the two halves. This is well below the Rugby Canada Benchmark of 100.
